Famous English Proverbs
Proverbs are defined as "short expressions of popular wisdom".
They convey the meaning in a concise, right to the point manner.
"Practice makes perfect" is one of my favourite proverbs
that I keep repeating to my students.
Actions speak louder than words.
What you do is more important than what you say
A picture is worth a thousand words.
An image can tell a story better than words
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
What is “beautiful” is different for each person.
Honesty is the best policy.
It’s always better to tell the truth than it is to lie.
Knowledge is power.
The more you know, the more powerful you can be in different areas of your life.

The origins of the English Language
When we talk about 'English', we often think of it as a single language. But what do the dialects spoken in dozens of countries around the world have in common with each other, or with the writings of Chaucer? Claire Bowern traces the language from the present day back to its ancient roots, showing how English has evolved through generations of speakers.
A very interesting TEDEd lesson.

The amazing Mr William Shakespeare
William Shakespeare ⭐
William Shakespeare (/ˈʃeɪkspɪər/ SHAYK-speer; 26 April 1564) was an English poet, playwright and actor, widely regarded as both the greatest writer in the English language, and the world's pre-eminent dramatist. He is often called England's national poet, and the "Bard of Avon". His extant works, including collaborations, consist of approximately 39 plays, 154 sonnets, two long narrative poems, and a few other verses, some of uncertain authorship. His plays have been translated into every major living language, and are performed more often than those of any other playwright.
