eTwinning
offers a platform for staff (teachers, head teachers, librarians, etc.),
working in a school in one of the European countries involved, to communicate,
collaborate, develop projects, share and, in short, feel and be part of the
most exciting learning community in Europe.
This year we are running two eTwinning projects, one with my 1st grade students called "Little people paint their lives" and one with my 5th grade students called "The incredible adventure of little Melina".
The main work of the projects is only accessible to the people involved but you can take a sneak peek at the progress of the projects through the public section following these links:
Reading books enriches language and vocabulary, provides knowledge and information and reduces stress to name but a few of the benefits! Ανοιχτή Βιβλιοθήκη.
Proverbs are defined as "short expressions of popular wisdom".
They convey the meaning in a concise, right to the point manner.
"Practice makes perfect" is one of my favourite proverbs
that I keep repeating to my students.
Actions speak louder than words. What you do is more important than what you say A picture is worth a thousand words. An image can tell a story better than words Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What is “beautiful” is different for each person. Honesty is the best policy. It’s always better to tell the truth than it is to lie. Knowledge is power. The more you know, the more powerful you can be in different areas of your life.
These and many more with their definitions can be found in a comprehensive list in this link by engVid. There is one for almost every situation!!
How do you perceive this glass? Is it half-full or half-empty? Or perhaps something else! Check out the following poster and see which one best describes you!
Fifty three countries are members of the Commonwealth. Our countries span Africa, Asia, the Americas, Europe and the Pacific and are diverse – they are amongst the world’s largest, smallest, richest and poorest countries. Thirty-one of our members are classified as small states – countries with a population size of 1.5 million people or less and larger member states that share similar characteristics with them.
All members subscribe to the Commonwealth’s values and principles outlined in The Commonwealth Charter.
Leaders of member countries shape Commonwealth policies and priorities. Every two years, they meet to discuss issues affecting the Commonwealth and the wider world at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
All members have an equal say – regardless of size or economic stature. This ensures even the smallest member countries have a voice in shaping the Commonwealth.
Greenpeace started a new initiative that allows people to take their own re-usable containers to a coffee shop, have their coffee poured in them and avoid in this way the use of disposable plastic glasses! And even better, you can get a discount for your coffee. 300 million plastic glasses just for coffee are thrown away in our country every year! And many of them end up in the sea. So, let's make a difference and take action! For more information, visit Greenpeace website! And in the link stopotirimou.gr you can find a list of all the coffeeshops around Greece that take part in this initiative!
When we talk about 'English', we often think of it as a single language. But what do the dialects spoken in dozens of countries around the world have in common with each other, or with the writings of Chaucer? Claire Bowern traces the language from the present day back to its ancient roots, showing how English has evolved through generations of speakers.
A lovely project by my 4th grade students who collected informationfrom the internet about famous London landmarks, found them on the map and made posters. So, if you plan a visit to London, don't miss these sights!!
You can also take a virtual tour with us.
And if you feel like it, you can try this listening activity by Learn English Teens - British Council.
This year, our school was a proud member of a large community (Νοιάζομαι και Δρω) that promotes volunteer work and solidarity. We organised and took part in many activities, inside and outside our school, to raise awareness among our students that helping other people is vital! We would like to live in a better world, we would like to make a difference.
Our 4th graders did some brainstorming on what it means to be a good citizen. And here are the results.
Three key terms, three magical words for the survival of our planet! My students decided that they should take action to save the environment! They need to recycle paper, plastic and metal. They need to reduce their rubbish. They need to reuse anything that can be reused! They made posters to persuade and inform their schoolmates!
They also watched relevant videos! Turtle diary
